Nestled in the heart of the Cleveland Street District in downtown Clearwater, The Nancy & David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre stands as one of Florida’s oldest continuously operating theaters. Built in 1921, this Mediterranean Revival landmark blends historic elegance with world-class acoustic intimacy, consistently ranking among the top boutique music venues in the world.

Whether you are heading downtown for an intimate concert, a comedy night, or a classic film screening, here is what makes a night out at the Capitol Theatre so special.

A Century of Clearwater History

  • 1921 Vaudeville Origins: The theater first opened its doors over 100 years ago showing silent films and hosting vaudeville performances.

  • Preserved WWII Memorial: During a major $11 million restoration, workers uncovered the “Panel of Honor”—a 20-foot mural hidden behind drywall for decades that honors local Clearwater citizens who served in World War I.

  • The Custom Roebling Chair: Industrialist Donald Roebling frequented the theater in the 1950s. Because of his large stature, he had a custom double-wide seat installed. Today, a replica of the Roebling Chair still sits house left as a unique double seat.
